He is Chair of the Urgent Care Board for the Lancashire North CCG.

Dr Nicholas Johnstone

Dr Johnstone was brought up in Bradford, and trained in Dundee. After leaving Medical School, he completed part of his General Practice Training in the UK before working as a Medical Officer in the Antarctic for a year. He then moved to Auckland, New Zealand, where he met his wife, Dr Bateman, who is also a GP in the practice. He has been a partner since 1994, and his interests include medical computing, and psychiatry.

Dr Helen Connell was born and bred in Derbyshire. She joined Queen Square medical practice in May 2001 and became a partner in April 2010. She has 2 girls.

Dr Samuel Moon

Dr Sam Moon joined the practice in December 2012. He studied Medicine at the University of Birmingham and completed his general practice training in the West Midlands. He has sepnt the past 5 years living in New Zealand. He has returned to the UK with his family to settle in the Lancaster area. Dr Rachel Woolley

General Practitioner

Dr Woolley grew up in Kendal, studied French & Philosophy in Edinburgh before changing tack to study Medicine at Manchester University. She worked in hospital medicine for 4 years before deciding to become a GP. She completed her GP training in York but has recently gravitated westwards again to be nearer family and the Lakeland Fells. She is the palliative care lead for the practice. Sister Christine Hudson

Nurse Practitioner

Chris Hudson is a specialist nurse who is highly trained to examine, assess and prescribe. She works closely alongside the doctors in providing a high standard of medical care and wherever appropriate you may be offered and appointment with her as an alternative to a doctor. She has training beyond that of a practice nurse and is able to treat a wide variety of illnesses/conditions.

Chris specialised in respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases and runs a regular spirometry clinic.

Sister Catherine Jackson

Practice Nurse

Cath joined the surgery as Lead Nurse at the beginning of May 2017.  She studied nursing at Glagow Royal Infirmary from 1984 to 1987.  She moved to Lancaster in 1987 and worked as a staff nurse locally.

She also studied midwifery and worked as a midwife for six years.  She started practice nursing in 1995 and has worked in four of the local practices.  She trained in all areas of disease management and carries out all necessary treatment room duties.

Sister Catherine Townsend

Catherine joined the practice officially in January 2013. Catherine has worked 4 years in practice nursing and previously 9 years in the community as a nurse visitor for the elderly. Catherine also has workerd 13 years with the HV service doing childhood immunisations and health reviews. Catherine has experience in travel medicine and has an advanced certificate in respiratory (asthma/COPD) and is embarking on further study in other chronic disease areas.

Sarah was a Healthcare Assistant here for many years before she left to do her Nursing Diploma in 2011.  She returned to the practice in April 2014 as a Treatment Room Nurse.

Lisa is a qualified nurse with twenty years experience. For most of this time she worked as a District Nurse. She has a wide range of knowledge and skills particularly wond care and dermatology.

Mrs Julie Leach

Research Nurse

Julie joined the practice in June 2012. She is a registered nurse with ten years experience working as a Practice Nurse and prior to that twenty years experience working in a hospital setting. Julie is working at the practice as a Research Nurse and may contact you to ask if you wish to be involved in a research project that the practice is involved with.

Sharon Salisbury

Advanced Nurse Practitioner

Sharon has been a Nurse Practitioner for many years. Previous to this her career has mainly been in A&E and in the community as a Community Matron. Her special intersts are contreception including implants, Menopause and Respirotory condtions.

Eleanor Sowerby

Research Nurse

Elley joined the Practice in January 2018. She is a registered Nurse with over seventeen years experience working in a variety of areas including Intensive Care, A&E, Hospice and most recently at Lancaster University, where she worked as the Country Trainer for a large EU care home study as well as Research Associate and Advance Care Planning (ACP) Facilitator. She joins the team as a Research Nurse helping to develop Primary Care Research across Morecambe Bay CCG.

Janet joined the Practice in October 2019. She works closely with Jonathan. Her main role is to oversee reception and administation of the practice. If you have any non-medical queries related to your health that cannot be dealt with by a receptionist or wish to make a suggestion or complaint about the running of the Practice, Janet will be happy to assist you.

Andrew joined the Practice in July 2018 as a Pharmacist. We share him with The James Cochrane Practice in Kendal. He works closley with David.

David Rowlands

Pharmacist Practitioner

David can examine, assess and prescribe for a wide range of conditions. David works closely alongside the doctors in providing a high standard of medical care and wherever appropriate you may be offered an appointment with him as an alternative to a Doctor.

He advises the practice team on all aspects of medicines and also runs a medication review clinic. Please feel free to book an appointment with him if you would like to discuss you medication in more detail.

Mr Jonathan Whitford-Bartle

Practice Director

Jonathan has been with the practice since 1998. He has overall responsibility for the smooth running of the practice and finacial matters. It is his role to ensure that we are constantly providing our patients with the best service possible and strives to the drive the practice forward. He is the Caldicott Guardian for the practice. ("a person with overall responsibility for ensuring that the confidentiality and security of patient information is maintained")

Services

The health visitor team consists of, but is not limited to: Jo Stretch, Kathleen Freear and Michele Kettlewell. They are on hand to give advice to expectant mother and parents of children upto school age. They also carry out developmental assessments on children at various stages.

Physiotherapists from the Infirmary hold regular clinics at Queen Square Medical Practice. This is a triage assessment clinic and if necessary, you will be referred by the physio to the hospital for further treatment.

This service requires a referral by your GP

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
