My undergraduate training was taken at Kings College, London and I completed this in 1993. Following experience in General Practice and hospitals, during which time I became a Fellow at the Royal College of surgeons in England, I embarked on the Specialist Orthodontist training programme at Guys, Kings and St Thomas’ Institute and completed this in 2001.

I now have over 17 years of clinical orthodontic experience having worked in Specialist Practices since I qualified and have constantly kept up to date with advances in orthodontics. I have seen how orthodontics can transform the way someone feels about their teeth and how this impacts their general wellbeing in a highly positive way. I like to tailor my treatments to suit the individual and very much like to involve patients at every stage of their treatment to help achieve the smile they are hoping for.

In December 2015 I seized the opportunity to take over the reins at Sutton Orthodontics as Practice Principal and am enjoying combining the running of a thriving business with the clinical expertise I have gained.

Dr Claire McGovern

Specialist Orthodontist

I graduated from the Royal Dental Hospital in London in 1982 and my postgraduate orthodontic qualification was obtained at King’s College, London in 1990. I have been working at Sutton Orthodontics since 1992. Since then I have also worked as a part time lecturer in the orthodontic department at King’s Dental Hospital as well as an orthodontist in the community service so have experience in all areas of orthodontic care.

I have two teenage children so most of my free time is spent acting as their taxi service and social secretary! I have also been a governor at their prep school for many years. The rest of the time I enjoy taking my dog for long walks and when possible the odd trip to the theatre.

I thoroughly enjoy my job and feel privileged to be able to work both with children and adults helping them achieve their aesthetic goals.

Dr Karun Sagar

Dentist with Special Interest

I graduated from India in 2001. After completing my MSc in research from Scotland, I registered with the UK General Dental Council in 2008. I have special interests in orthodontics and minimally invasive dentistry.

In addition to caring for the dental health of patients in both private and NHS practices in Scotland and England, I have also worked as a clinical assistant in orthodontics with Specialist Orthodontists since 2010.

I enjoy working with all age groups but the opportunity to educate young children to understand how they can prevent dental disease really motivates me. I believe that good health, including healthy teeth and happy smiles, is the best gift we as parents can pass on to the next generation.   I have therefore limited my practice mainly to Orthodontics since the start of 2018, assisting Orthodontic Specialists in London and Cambridge.

Outside dentistry, I enjoy playing cricket and being the father to my two little ones.
