Services

Patients with asthma can make an appointment for advice and support (including checks on how effectively you are using your inhaler) from our practice nurse Michelle Cairns who specialises in asthma.

Please contact the surgery to arrange an appointment.

The surgery provides a baby clinic on a Monday at Betts Avenue between 1.30pm - 3.00pm. This is a drop-in clinic where no appointments to see the Health Visitor are required.

Immunisations are carried out by the practice nurse in this clinic. Babies and preschool children can attend the weekly clinics. This is where infants and young children can have their feeding, growth, behaviour and development monitored and reviewed by the health visitor.

The Health Visitor can also sometimes provide support for parents of preschool children who may be experiencing difficulties.

PLEASE NOTE THIS CLINIC IS FOR WELL BABIES AND INFANTS. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE A DOCTOR FOR ANY AILMENTS UNLESS PRE BOOKED.

Patients with COPD will be reviewed every year for support, advice and checks to see how effectively you are using any inhalers with our practice nurse Michelle Cairns who specialises in COPD.

If you have any problems inbetween your recall please contact the surgery for an appointment.

Patients with diabetes will be reviewed in the chronic disease clinic on a yearly basis with our practice nurse Angela Wall who specialises in diabetes.

If you have any problems inbetween please contact the surgery to arrange an appointment.

We offer a full range of contaception services, including fitting of intra-uterine devices (coils).

Please make an appointment with Dr Black to discuss this further.

We do not fit Implanon implants at the surgery, should you be interested in having this please contact the Newcroft Centre, Market Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 6ND telephone 0191 2292999.

Dr Black and Dr Kerry undertake minor surgical procedures under local anaesthetic. The following procedures are performed in the suregry:

. Excision of skin tags
. Excision of cysts or lumps
. Crotherapy to warts
. Curette of warts
. In-growing toenail surgery
. Joint injections
. Removal of skin moles causing irritation

Appointment should be ideally made with Dr Black or Dr Kerry for initial assessment but can also be done through your regular doctor.

Most of these procedures are done under local anaesthesia. If you have any allergies please indicate this to the doctor at the time.

Where appropriate a tissue or a biopsy will be sent to the hospital for histology. Results can be obtained by telephoning the surgery two weeks after the procedure. If sutures need to be removed, an appointment will be arranged with the practice or district nurse.

This service requires a referral by your GP

We offer a weight management service to help those wishing to lose weight. Please ask to make an appointment with our healthcare assistant or the practice nureses.

Advice regarding healthy eating and exercise will be given. If appropriate you may be given a prescription for medication to help you lose weight.

The surgery have a vast range of different counsellors providing clinics at the surgery which include psychiatrists and drug counsellors who can help people with a wide range of emotional, mental health problems and relational problems.

To arrange a referral please make an appointment with your doctor.

Alternatively Newcastle Talking Therapies offer counselling for people dealing with depression, anxiety, stress, anger, fears, bereavment and relationship problems. You can be referred to this service through your doctor or you can self refer by phoning them directly on 03005551115.
