Services
Asthma ClinicIn recognition of the increasing prevalence of asthma in our community we hold an asthma clinic on a Monday morning at Theale but alternatively you can book in to an ordinary clinic. These appointments are run by the Practice Nurses who will ensure treatment is effective by checking inhaler technique and measuring lung function regularly, referring you to your usual doctor. Patients must bring their inhaler with them to appointments.
Child ImmunisationsWe do not run a special clinic; appointments are made in ordinary clinics.
Most vaccinations are given during childhood. Some are given more than once to make sure the protection continues. This ‘top-up’ is called a booster.
You will be sent an appointment when your baby’s immunisation is due. It is important that your baby has their immunisations as near to two, three and four months of age as possible, to keep the risk of them catching these diseases as low as possible. Premature babies should also be immunised from two months after birth, regardless of how premature they were.
A clinic is run on a Monday morning at Theale or you can make an appointment in an ordinary clinic. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a chronic lung condition encompassing diseases such as bronchitis and emphysema. Patients suffering from this condition are usually over 40 years of age, get breathless on exertion, may have a chronic cough and usually (but not always) have a history of smoking.
Diabetes Clinic providing insulin initiationThis is a nurse-led clinic which is run on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.
Dressings clinic (nurse led)This is a nurse-led service whereby patients can book in to ordinary appointments.

Learning disability health checkThe Annual health check scheme is for adults and young people aged 14 or above with learning disabilities who need more health support and who may otherwise have health conditions that go undetected. People who have moderate, severe or profound learning disabilities, or have a mild learning disability may benefit from the check. People with learning difficulties may have difficulty in recognising illness, communicating their needs and using health services. These checks can often uncover treatable health conditions.
Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC - eg IUD or implant)We do not run special clinics; appointments are made in ordinary clinics. Appointments can be used by women, men and young people, including those who are under 16.
You can arrange an appointment directly or you can be referred by your GP.
The appointments offer a range services and advice and can provide: confidential advice about contraception; the combined oral contraceptive pill; the progestogen-only pill; progestogen contraceptive injections; insertion or removal of the contraceptive implant; cervical screening; unplanned pregnancy advice; free pregnancy tests; pre-conception (pre-pregnancy) advice and information on fertility problems; fitting and checking of caps, diaphragms, IUDs (intrauterine devices, or coils) and IUSs (intrauterine systems, or hormonal coils).
Phlebotomy is the practice of drawing blood and is performed primarily to diagnose and monitor a patient's condition. It involves highly developed and rigorously tested procedures and equipment to ensure the safety and comfort of the patient and the integrity of the sample collected.
Blood is collected by both a venous (venepuncture) and capillary blood sample collection and sent on to local facilities to be tested.
