ABOUT ME:

Hi my name is Sanjay and I tutor KS3, GCSE and A-level Mathematics. I graduated with a 2:1 MEng in Engineering Science from Oxford University, after completing my schooling in North London. I was educated in state-comprehensive schools throughout my education prior to my undergrad at Oxford. After my degree I worked for 10+ years as a management consultant in the city of London for a Big 4 organisation. Before taking an altogether different plunge into my life-long passion for Acting!

I have thus far been tutoring my Maths students in evenings and weekend, outside of my professional acting work. But due to the recent coronavirus outbreak and this week’s new stay-indoor advice from the government, I am now running a lot of online-sessions for students and can offer 121s (via Skype/Zoom) on any day of week, any time of day.

My prices are listed below, and I also describe the particular approach I like to take in my teaching method. My full CV is also available on request.

PRICES:
• First trial session (1hr Skype/Zoom) = FREE
• Each Skype/Zoom session thereafter = £30 per hour*
• Additional students (within the same Skype/Zoom session) = £15/hr extra each

[* Given the current difficult financial times for everyone, I am happy to discuss discounts that suit your affordability].

I do not charge students for their first session with me – because I feel it important that the student (and parent) first establish if I am the right tutor for them – i.e. the tutor who makes them feel at their most productive and helps them understand things the best.

MY APPROACH:

I tend to take the exact same approach that helped me succeed at school myself. I remember an A-level Maths tutor once telling me: “You’re not a natural mathematician, but you do always manage to get top grades”. I took this as a massive compliment, because it demonstrated my ability to break down something which I found very complex (I remember only too well just how daunting I found the jump from GCSE to A-level to be!) into an understandable chunk-at-a-time process. And it is this exact same approach I take with my students – breaking down complex mathematical exam questions, into a bite-sized actionable steps, which can be repeated over and over. It gives me great satisfaction when I see my students take the transformation of finding a particular mathematical topic they initially found “too difficult”, into becoming “easy”- because I instil into them that confidence and familiarity on how to tackle exam-questions step at a time.

I like to take a “results-orientated” approach and start my students working on exam-questions as early as possible, often right from the very first session. I then teach them the “theory” as we go along (whilst we working through the exam questions). This is in contrast to many other Mathematics tutors who prefer to spend time working through the theory first. By no means do I suggest my approach is better than theirs – but it’s the approach that I find helped me, and has helped my students so far maximise their grades– particularly if they’re not the “natural mathematician” like I wasn’t!

I do offer flexibility however in how my students wish to spend their time with me – so if there’s a particular piece of homework they want help with, or want explanation of a particular topic, then I am happy to adapt my sessions to best suit the student.

In addition, I also coach and mentor my students as we go along, on:
- exam technique,
- managing exam anxiety,
- effective time-management,
- revision-strategy and organisation of topics
- study and rest – finding the optimum balance

It is typically my goal to take my students up 1-2 grades within 3-6 months of tutoring. I have previously helped GCSE and A-level students predicted Bs and Cs for Mathematics, to achieve A*s and As. And also helped a student who was at D-grade for GCSE Mathematics to go up to B-grade after a year of tuition.
