Asthma

Our nurse, Deborah Warrington, also works along side one of our GP’s Dr Singh to monitor and support patients with chest problems such as Asthma and COPD. Patients will receive regular reviews, support in inhaler technique as well as a Personalised Asthma Action Plan. Please remember to bring any all inhaled medication to your appointment.

There are routine vaccinations that are offered free of charge on the NHS to all babies and children in the UK. Please contact the surgery to arrange a suitable appointment time.

Health Visitor are available on site for information and advice every Monday 13.30 – 15.00. We also have a midwife service every Wednesday morning.

Musculoskeletal conditions are common, accounting for 15–20% of GP consultations, are chronic disorders and are usually managed in primary care. Injection therapy is an intervention that normally involves localized administration of a corticosteroid with a local anaesthetic. It has been in use for more than 50 years, and there is plenty of anecdotal evidence of its efficacy. This service is available for patients by Dr B Jain if appropriate and following her assessment.

These are completed by our nursing team - we will contact any eligible patients to arrange this. For housebound patients, we can arrange a visit to complete this health check.

Sessions are held for patients referred by one of our doctor. Dr Singh runs these sessions along with the practice nurse.

Blood tests may be taken at the surgery, in which case the samples are sent directly to the hospital Pathology Laboratory via a twice-daily delivery service, Monday-Friday. The same applies to urine tests, swabs, cultures and tissue samples for histological analysis (e.g. from minor surgery).

Alternatively, patients can attend the Adult Day Hospital (close to the lower entrance to the Café Royal] at the Royal Oldham Hospital for blood tests, Monday- Friday, 8-30am to 4-00 pm, without an appointment, provided they obtain a request form from the surgery.

Blood results will be available in 5 days. Please ensure we have your correct telephone no. You are advised to contact the surgery between 11 – 12 and speak to reception for results – 0161 622 9230. It is possible that the GP may ring you about the results.

Mohammed offers patients with any MSK problem an assessment appointment and treatment if necessary. He liaises with the GPs in the practice and can request further investigations or onward referral into other services as required.

You may need travel vaccines depending on the country or countries that you intend to visit. To help us give you the appropriate advice please complete a travel form available from reception. This should be undertaken 6 weeks prior to travel. You will then be contacted regarding, if any, travel vaccines are recommended. Please note there may be a charge levied for some vaccines.

Please note it may be necessary to direct patients to an alternative Travel Clinic for some specialised vaccines or if enough time has not been given to the Practice Nurse for appointment allocation prior to departure.
