Specialist Orthodontist

Sofia studied dentistry at Kings College Dental Hospital, London where she graduated with a 1st Class Honours intercalated BSc and BDS with Distinction in Orthodontics and Paedodontics.

After completing House Officer and Senior House officer posts in Oral Surgery and Paediatric Dentistry she started her Specialist Orthodontic training at Kings College Dental Hospital London and St George’s Hospital London. On completion of her specialist training she had obtained an MSc in Orthodontics with Distinction and her MOrth from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Sofia continued onto higher Orthodontic training at the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead and Guy’s Hospital London, completing  her Intercollegiate Fellowship Examination in Orthodontics. She took up her first Consultant position at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford and Stoke Mandeville Hospital. She is now Consultant Orthodontist back at the Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, and at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, London, where she also holds an academic post at Kings College London. In her Consultant role she leads Hypodontia (developmentally missing teeth) clinics and works together with general dentists and specialists to facilitate the provision of bridges and implants. She also leads orthognathic (orthodontics and Jaw Surgery) clinics planning and providing treatment for patients who need both orthodontics and surgery.

Sofia is a trainer for Orthodontists, and examines for both the MSc in Orthodontics for Kings College London, and the Conjoint MOrth Examination for The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Kings College London. She also examines for the MJDF for the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Sofia has co-authored an Orthodontist text “Clinical Cases in Orthodontics” published by Wiley-Blackwell.

Dr Adam Ryan

Specialist Orthodontist

Adam graduated from dentistry at Queensland University in 1982.  He relocated to the UK in 1983 and spent several years working in general practice in Middlesex.

He began a three year full-time training course in Orthodontics in 1991 based at Guy’s and Kingston hospital.  Upon graduating he received a Master of Science Degree and the Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons of England allowing him to be registered as a Specialist Orthodontist with the General Dental Council.

Following completion of his specialist training, Adam started work in orthodontic practices in London and Wokingham and joined us full-time in 1994.

Adam is a member of the British Orthodontic Society, and his main clinical interest is growth modification treatment.

Adam treats patients at our Maidenhead and Wokingham practices.
